An overlay is a cementitious or polymer-modified material that can be applied directly over some existing coatings, other overlays, existing concrete (new or old). A benefit to an overlay is that it can be applied in several ways and thicknesses to achieve different effects depending on the results you are looking for. We can create a stone facade, a brick or cobblestone appearance, tile effect, or just a plain, smooth, freshly stained concrete look. There is also the durability factor of concrete overlays. The overlay product we use is a high-quality polymer-modified product that also acts as a sealer.
Another benefit of overlays is the ability to keep your existing slab or substrate in-tact. We don’t need to tear out a slab of concrete and re-pour. This means that an overlay is a very cost-effective solution when compared to replacing an entire slab. Another benefit is that most projects can be completed within a day or two. There are so many options available. Potential clients need to understand that an overlay is susceptible to cracking due to the slab it sits on. If the concrete underneath moves, shifts, expands, contracts it will affect the overlay, too. If your slab has extensive spalling due to mag-chloride or is otherwise unsound, replacing the slab is the best solution. At this time, we do not replace and/or pour concrete.
